Project Overview
The Cowcaddens and Dobbie’s Loan Project forms part of the Avenues Plus projects, which aim to transform Cowcaddens Road and Dobbie’s Loan by resurfacing both footways and carriageways and creating new cycle lanes. They will also extend footways, provide new kerbing and public realm improvements.
This project is part of Avenues Plus to deliver major public realm transformation works in the fringes of the Glasgow city centre to improve connectivity. It is funded through the Scottish Government via Sustrans, delivering the biggest transformation of Glasgow’s public realm in decades.
Key Numbers
The Avenues Programme will reshape the city centre to protect and prioritise space for active travel, improve connectivity, introduce sustainable green infrastructure and improve the way public transport is accommodated. Specific improvements will include:
- Green/blue infrastructure (such as street trees, planting and Rain Gardens)
- Enhanced and widened footways
- Single surface crossing points
- Segregated cycle lanes
- Reduced street clutter
- Intelligent Street Lighting (ISL) and improved lighting features
