Project Overview
The project consists of the construction of a new 36m single span composite weather steel and concrete box girder bridge with masonry clad abutments and parapet. Works also comprise the construction of a new 6m wide 415m long single carriageway road and the construction of a new T-Junction.
Work on the historic Aberdeenshire bridge has taken a massive step forward. Gairnshiel Bridge in Royal Deeside has seen the two main bridge girders lifted into place. Each Girder weighing in at 101t were installed using the Liebherr LG1550. A great team effort by all to get the project to this key milestone!
The installation of the girders was witnessed by a group of Primary 6 & 7 pupils from the nearby Ballater Primary School, and local Councillor Geva Blackett. The school pupils got the opportunity to speak with several site staff, who talked to the children about their jobs and their career path. Afterwards they also received a K’Nex bridge building kit and book – we are looking forward to seeing their design and construction models.
Wills Bros thanked the local community for their support and understanding during the construction works.
