We were delighted to be shortlisted for the New Civil Engineer Bridge Awards in the Road bridge project of the year category for our A939 Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge project that was delivered on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council.

The Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge, replaced the old bridge, a stunning Grade-A listed structure which was built in the mid 1700’s and was no longer suitable for traffic, due to the increased volume and size of vehicles used today. The old bridge still remains for the community and visitors to the area to admire and enjoy. Construction begun in Spring 2022 and the bridge was opened to the public in October 2023.

The Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge carefully balances preserving the historic character of the area with a modern design that complements the beautiful surroundings. The bridge itself is elegant, built with local granite and weathering steel to echo the natural colours of the glen. It gracefully spans the River Gairn, making travel between Deeside and Speyside much easier. The project was designed to be cost-effective, minimise environmental impact, and benefit the local community. Opened in 2023 by His Majesty King Charles to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, the bridge is built to last and will serve Aberdeenshire for many years to come.

Congratulations to all nominees!
