Project Overview
Wills Bros are Civils and electrical design and build contractor for a 49.99MW battery energy storage facility located next to Lunanhead Substation near Forfar, Angus.
Works include installation of 24 battery storage units housed in steel containers; grid connection; transformers; electrical control buildings; equipment and associated works.
Key Numbers
- 3500m³ cut + 1600m³ acceptable fill of site won material and compact to form BESS Unit platform
- 330m Carrier Drain with Hydrobrake manholes / 150m Filter Drains
- Water Storage system to permanently hold 192m³ of water to be used in the event of a fire.
- Permeable Pond with headwalls.
- Reinforced concrete oil bund trays with an 8m³ capacity
- Installation of a Klargester Oil Interceptor with alarm system connected to the SWG
- Design and Build of Switch gear building f (51m²) and DNO Sub-Station
- 24 no reinforced concrete bases (14m long) / 216 no plinths (600mm high)
- 12 no oil bund trays with 8m³ of containment
- Construction of new access from Old Brechin Road
- 400m Perimeter Fence
- A substantial ducting system to provide power and comms to the relevant buildings, consisting of:
- 450mm ducting installed for mains supply to Twin Skid Transformer, additional 225mm ducting installed to link each Twin Skid Transformer and then provide a link back to the SWG Room.
- M of LV Ducting to link the Twin Skid Transformer and the Battery Storage units. This has consisted of duct trays and stakkaboxes with covers and frames.
