Project Overview

Wills Bros are responsible for the design and construction for a relief road in Cullompton, Devon, linking Station Road and Exeter Road via Meadow Lane.

Works include 1.3km of new road; associated culverts; a 15m span bridge; road improvements at tie ins including a new roundabout.

Key Numbers

  • Construction of the new relief road link, approximately 1.3km in length nominally 6.5m wide
  • Re-alignment works to the B3181 Station Road including realignment of the B3181 Station Road / Millennium Way Roundabout
  • A new road bridge; approx.15m clear span – Sheet piled abutment walls / PC beams
  • 8 main Contractor-designed flood relief culverts (RC details only, foundation etc by DCC)
  • Roundabout junction to connect the new relief road to Station Road and Millenium Way
  • A new access junction and side road to provide an alternate access into the park home and Showman’s site located behind the Weary Traveller pub.
  • The partial realignment of a 60m section of Meadow Lane to facilitate connection to the new relief road and a change of priority at its junction with Duke Street.
  • 5 junctions providing access to existing minor roads, adjacent properties and sports clubs
  • 2 surface water attenuation ponds, swales ditches and outfall works
  • Demolition of existing sporting facilities in close proximity the west coast mainline boundary fence
  • Replacement fencing to the west coast mainline boundary with new palisade fencing
  • Construction of new paths, landscaping, and fencing works.
  • Coordination of utilities diversionary works required by BT, National Grid, Wales and West Utilities and SWW to accommodate the new road, modified roundabout junction on Station Road and realignment of Meadow Lane.
