Highways UK Excellence Awards – Birmingham Vox Centre 2023
We were delighted to attend the awards ceremony with RPS as finalists in the Net Zero category. Our entry for GAIA cable crossing fought off fierce competition in the Net Zero category to get through to the final and win the award including:
- Mott MacDonald and National Highways – Net Zero Roadmaps for concrete, steel, and asphalt
- Char.gy – Green Streets
- Ringway Jacobs – Marthall Lane Bridge
- MachineMax, Costain, Flannery Plant hire, and WSP – Costain Smart Motorways Alliance
Our Net Zero credentials for reaching the final were because we reduced the carbon footprint of the Clients design by approximately 90%. The specimen design had a carbon footprint of more than 1500 tC02e, but our solution was less than 200 tC02e.
For our solution to be accepted we worked collaboratively with our designer – RPS, the main stakeholder – Scottish Power Energy Networks, and the manufacturer Wavin (who undertook specific fatigue testing of their product to get this over the line).
