Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation Award
We are delighted to announce that we have been accredited as a Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation by the UN-recognised Carbon Literacy Project.
This prestigious certification recognises our commitment to upskilling our people to play a proactive role in reducing our carbon emissions and working towards a zero-carbon future. Carbon Literacy is defined as, “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis,” and revolves around a day’s worth of learning and action on climate change.
Our Carbon Literacy training programme has been developed and delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful and Earthology, who we have been working closely with in this area for a number of years.
As part of the accreditation process to become a Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation, we have established an ongoing Carbon Literacy training programme for our staff, targeting various departments across our business. To date, we have delivered training to 4 cohorts, with almost 50 staff benefitting from this training. By spreading awareness and understanding of the impact of carbon emissions to decision makers across our workforce, we can continue to expand the implementation of low-carbon initiatives across our operations. This includes the prioritisation of low carbon design solutions and lower carbon materials, as well as continually upgrading our large plant fleet to take advantage of modern, efficient engines and emerging technologies. All of this has been achieved by creating a culture of active carbon management, aligned to PAS 2080:2023 (specification for Carbon Management in Buildings & Infrastructure) and guaranteed by our newly launched Carbon Management company process. We have also worked closely with our supply chain delivery partners to raise awareness of sustainability issues in the industry and empower our staff to make a positive difference in the transition towards a future free from greenhouse gas emissions.
Being accredited as a Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation is an important achievement for us because it:
- Supports our people to collaborate in identifying and implementing opportunities for carbon reduction on an organisational scale.
- Demonstrates our commitment to maintaining a low-carbon organisational culture.
- Enables us to drive faster action on climate change.
- Sets a positive example of sustainability leadership in our industry
