Bruce Street Bridges | Newcombe Drive & Cheney Manor Flood Alleviation Works Contracts | Swindon Borough Council
Works to Bruce Street Bridges and Newcombe Drive include realignment of carriageways and footways to improve traffic flow and traffic capacity.
At Bruce Street Bridges, four roundabouts that are currently in a square configuration with a roundabout at each corner are to be reconstructed as one large roundabout, with associated footway, drainage, street lighting, signing, signals and landscaping works. Two of the roundabouts are on one side of the railway line, with the remaining two on the other side. The railway passes overhead, through the centre of the junction.
Newcombe Drive junction is currently a left turn only junction, but with the realignment of slip lanes and installation of traffic lights, all movements will be possible.
Cheney Manor Flood Alleviation Works include underground flood storage to be aligned with existing infrastructure at seven strategic locations. The storage will be a combination of online and offline storage to current drainage networks and will consist of installed box culverts, large size sewers or storm cells with associated flow control measures. The works on the existing drainage is to include provision of overflows and interception at selected points, including local sewer improvements and upgrades to highway drainage system.
